Back Up Data

KDE Linux includes a built-in system to back up your important data to a secondary disk or a network location.

To set this up, do the following:

  1. Open the System Settiings app and click on Backups, at the bottom of the sidebar’s System group.
  2. Click Add New Plan…
  3. Click Destination and choose where to store the backup. There are two options:
  • External storage disk: plug it in, click Mount and Open in the popup that appears, click External Storage on the backup destination page, and select the disk in the list.
  • Network location: make sure it’s manually mounted using /etc/fstab and then select it in Destination Path for Backup:
  1. Click Schedule and choose a schedule.
  2. Click Apply.

Thereafter, your data will be periodically saved to the configured location. This system will keep multiple old versions of the data until the location fills up, and then remove the oldest versions.
