KDE 3.97 was released on December 11th, 2007.

Download and Installation
Build instructions. Build instructions are separately maintained.
The KDE release is split into a platform release and a desktop release.
The KDE 4.0 Development Platform release consists of the modules kdelibs, kdepimlibs and kdebase-runtime. It is the minimum number of modules that are needed to build and run KDE 4.0 applications. Install this if you want to build and run a 3rd party application.

Some Linux/UNIX OS vendors have kindly provided binary packages of KDE 3.97 for some versions of their distribution, and in other cases community volunteers have done so. Some of these binary packages are available for free download from KDE's http or FTP mirrors.
Currently pre-compiled packages are available for:

- Packages for 7.10 (Gutsy) including Kubuntu KDE 4 RC 2 Live CD
- 2008: Intel i386
